Annuals
Browse:  A-Z
Welcome to our Annuals Section.  In doing research in the types of flowers we wanted to grow our interest was directed toward antique and heirloom flowers.  In other words, the types of flowers your grandma used to grow in her flower garden.  In this fast-paced world there are a lot of things being left behind in the shuffle and one of them is the older varieties of flowers.  We have learned that one of the reasons these flowers have stood the test of time is because of their hardiness.  They tend to have a natural disease resistance, are very adaptable to most conditions and they most definitely have a much more intense fragrance than the modern hybrids.  We hope you learn something about the past and who knows, you might just see that flower you remember growing in your grandmother’s garden!!!

Favorites

Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate
''Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate'
This heirloom variety, also called 'Ladyfingers', is found rarely in country gardens. Tall stems reach to 6 feet tall displaying large smooth leaves and dangling blooms of deep rose swaying in the slightest breeze. Was listed in Burpee's catalogue in 1935.

Gypsophilia
''Gypsy Deep Rose'
An AAS winner for 2004. The variety produces an astounding number of double and semi-double dark rose colored blooms. Will form a mound eight to ten inches tall and will spread 12 - 14 inches.

Nasturtium
'Jewell Mix'
Small, dark blue-green leaves and bright red, yellow and orange flowers make a striking contrast on this Victorian era heirloom. The flowers and leaves have a peppery taste that spices up salads, vegetables and pasta dishes.
Angelonia

Also known as summer snapdragon. Masses of orchid-like flowers on easy-to-grow, lush plants that love the heat. Annual which can grow up to 18-24 inches tall. Blooms summer through Autumn.

A pleasing pastel blend of peach-pink and cream blooms adorn this AAS winner. Plants grow 8 inches tall and spread 10 to 12 inches.
Dichondria
'Silver Falls'
Rounded, fan-shaped silver foliage hugs the soil, cascading or crawling up to a full 3 foot.
